Nike Advert Analysis


Denotation - It's an Nike Advert
Connotation - It's the idea of the urban city be cool. The Product is aimed for male teenagers because firstly the person in the advert is male, secondly Football is a male dominated sport and finally the clothing that he's wearing would appeal to male teenagers because at that time the urban culture was very popular for teenagers so that would appeal to them.
Font - The Font they use for "Who Rules" looks like Times New Roman and it looks old so it links because to the old days of conquering which links back to the words "Who Rules"
Copy - The term "Who Rules" and "The Showdown" links back to conquering and being the best because "Showdown" and "Rules" are buzzwords.
Colour - The background of the picture is colourless because they only want the focus to only be on the person who's playing football which is the only thing that is in colour except the copy because they only want to focus on the person playing football to have the attention, it helps sell products because people would be interested in the clothing and the football.
Framing - The copy is in bright red so it stands out also the term "Who Rules" links back to blood considering Who Rules links back to the old days of war the conquering. They also put the person in colour because the clothes he's wearing appeal to male teenagers because the urban culture is cool.
Composition - They placed the person in the middle of the image to have the centre of attention and they put the font/copy at the bottom right. They placed it like this because the person will grab the attention of the public and the font/copy which contain buzzwords will maintain the interest.
Size -  The size of the font isn't that big in comparison to the rest of the picture.
Type of Shot - The type of shot is a Long Shot
The Subject Matter -  Is the Shoes he's wearing (Total 90's) the clothing and the football
Setting - The Urban street in a playground
